According to Ayurveda all the inanimate objects in the universe and bodies of living creatures including man are composed of the permutation and combination of the five basic elements. Space (Akasha) Air or Wind (Vayu) Fire or energy (Tejas) Water or Liquids (Aapa) Earth or solids (Prithvi) The human body is composed of earth, water, fire, air and ether i.e., five basic elements of the universe.

Good health, in Ayurveda, is a state of balance where one's body, mind, soul, and environment are in harmony. Swasthya(Positive Health) is a state of well-being of physical self, well-being of the atma (soul), well-being of indriya (senses), well-being of manas(mind) as well as their non-attachment (sthitha prajna) is equally important.


HEALTHY (SVASTHA):
Healthy (Svastha) is one whose doshas, agni and functions of dhatu and malas are in the state of equilibrium and who has cheerful mind, intellect and sense organs is termed as "SVASTHA" - Healthy.

If the body's mechanisms are unsuccessful, to restore the conditions (chemical content, volume, temperature and pressure) of body's tissue fluid (internal environment) to normal, the cell malfunctions and dies. This leads to illness or disease.

A lack of Internal Environment (tissue fluid) well-being leads to illness or disease.
